St. Francis Hospital Welcomes General Surgeon Katherine A. Sahm, MD, FACS Wilmington, DE (March 23, 2010) – St. Francis Hospital is proud to welcome Dr. Katherine A. Sahm and her general surgery practice into the St. Francis Family.

Since 2005 Dr. Sahm has been general surgeon for Christiana Institute of Advanced Surgery (CHRIAS) in Newark; she will join the St. Francis Surgical Team on April 1, 2010.  Dr. Sahm, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a board certified general surgeon is now scheduling visits at her St. Francis Hospital practice, where she focuses on laparoscopic surgery, trauma, and colon and breast care.

The St. Francis Advanced Surgical Specialists main office will be located at 1100 North Grant Avenue,2nd Floor, Wilmington, DE with a second office location in the St. Francis Hospital Medical Office Building, Suite 400.  Dr. Sahm is accepting new patients, call 302-421-4290 to make an appointment.

Dr. Sahm, a native Delawarean, graduated from Jefferson Medical College and she completed her surgical residency at Christiana Care Health System.  Also a Major in the U.S. Army Reserve Medical Corps, Dr. Sahm served for 3 1/2 months in Iraq in 2009.  

In January, Dr. Sahm was elected to serve as the Delaware Chapter of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Young Surgeon Representative.  In this role Dr. Sahm will encourage young surgeons to develop leadership skills, plan educational and social programs to attract young surgeons, and participate in the policy-making process.  Dr. Sahm will represent St. Francis at the ACS Leadership Conference held in Washington D.C. July 2010.
