Trinity Health Announced as the Name of Saint Francis Healthcare’s National Parent Organization

November 19, 2014

saint_francis_90years_logo_2014_327x91 trinity_health_logo_327x91

Saint Francis Healthcare’s parent organization has announced that it is now Trinity Health and revealed a new branding identity and strategy for the system that emphasizes more than ever a people-centered approach to its service to individuals and communities.

“We are proud that Saint Francis Healthcare is a part of Trinity Health,” said Brian E. Dietz, FACHE, president and CEO.”As we celebrate this historic moment, the symbolism of our national system’s new logo inspires us. We are also proud of the way our ministry’s collaborations in the larger system serve not only to strengthen Saint Francis Healthcare’s ability to provide the highest quality care to our community, but that our efforts help strengthen other affiliates’ ability to best serve those who rely on them, as well.”

Doing business as CHE Trinity Health since the May 2013 merger of Catholic Health East and the former ministry of Trinity Health, Saint Francis Healthcare’s parent organization has finalized its name and fresh look as it moves past the post-merger integration phase into a strategic implementation phase focused on serving in a more people-centered way than ever before. A major goal continues to be strengthening local systems like Saint Francis Healthcare to ensure that they can continue to provide the best possible care to their communities, despite the challenges of an evolving health care environment.

“The benefits of being part of Trinity Health are behind the scenes, but numerous,” said Dietz. “Through our affiliation, we have ready access to resources and ideas that advance clinical quality and patient safety across the broad spectrum of care and which provide significant economies of scale that reduce costs. System resources like these address important needs and let us concentrate on our highest priorities — the people who come to us for health information or come through our doors for needed care.”

Saint Francis Healthcare and Trinity Health’s shared mission is rooted in the Gospel and fully representative of their Catholic identity and faith traditions. Trinity Health’s new purple and green logo depicts that mission symbolically, featuring a cross formed by the wings of four doves – symbols of love, peace and caring. Three purple doves, reflecting the Holy Trinity come together with a green dove, symbolizing the organization’s openness to new partners and new ideas.

“Our national system’s new branding effort succeeds in telling our story and the story of all of its ministries,” said Dietz. “We offer faith-based care that is compassionate and healing as we work, together, to transform health in each of our communities and across the nation.”

Saint Francis Healthcare Names Dietz CEO

January 13, 2014

CHE Trinity Health announced today that Brian Dietz, FACHE, will continue as president and chief executive officer of Saint Francis Healthcare, Wilmington, Del., following eight months of interim leadership in this role.

Dietz brings more than 35 years of health care management experience in meeting quality and financial objectives to his position and a leadership approach that focuses on quality outcomes, employee and physician relations, supply and expense management and strategic planning for growth.

“Brian has established physician partnerships that support quality patient care as a high priority for Saint Francis,” said H. Ray Welch Jr., senior vice president, ministry operations, CHE Trinity Health. “We look forward to continued progress in engaging the medical staff and key stakeholders in the development and implementation of plans that are aligned with core strategies.”

“I am pleased to report the Board of Directors was unanimous in its endorsement of Brian as the president and CEO,” said Dennis Salter, Saint Francis board chairperson. “We are very delighted with the progress Saint Francis has made under Brian’s enthusiastic leadership as interim CEO and we look forward to continued success now that he is a permanent member of the Saint Francis family.”

“I was eager to accept the offer from CHE Trinity and the Saint Francis Board because in the past eight months I have been thoroughly impressed with the positive attitude and compassionate spirit of each and every colleague here,” said Dietz. “Together with our physician partners, we are working on creating a healthy future for Wilmington, for all of Delaware.”

When Dietz became interim president and CEO in May, he was cited by CHE Trinity for his strong track record of building partnerships and strengthening collaborations with clinicians. Under Dietz’s leadership, Saint Francis Healthcare has enhanced its cardiology service, entered into strategic alliances with various physician groups, such as the Mid-Atlantic G.I. Consultants and Surgeons for Emergency Care, and formed partnerships to make top specialists available to Delawareans, as with its affiliation with The Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson.

“Building on our many recent successes, we can say with certainty we will have many exciting and important announcements to make in coming months,” promised Dietz.  “At the same time, I look forward to celebrating Saint Francis’ 90 years of service in the community. It is energizing to join an organization that exemplifies such a dedicated and rich history in Delaware.”

Dietz earned his Master of Science in hospital administration from The George Washington University and his Bachelor of Science in sociology with an emphasis in clinical social work from Frostburg State University. As a consultant to the health care industry for many years, his expertise spans many areas, including health care administration, physician practice management, health care information technology and revenue cycle management. He is married with two children and is a native of Baltimore.

Saint Francis Healthcare, a member of CHE Trinity Health, operates Delaware’s only Catholic hospital serving Wilmington and Northern New Castle County since 1924. Creating a Healthy Future

Saint Francis Healthcare is in the midst of a period of transformation that is both positive and meaningful for the hospital, and for the community at large. We have established relationships with well-known specialists creating new partnerships in addition to making investments in technology to strengthen our healthcare offering with state-of-the-art equipment. Our community outreach programs make a significant impact in the city of Wilmington for individuals ranging in age from young children to the elderly. Saint Francis offers far more than the latest technology however. The individualized care, dedicated and accomplished staff, and spiritual support offered at Saint Francis are unique.

We hear time and time again how the type of high quality care received at Saint Francis far exceeds the care received at other area institutions. In fact, Saint Francis Hospital has touched thousands of lives in decades of service to the community, and has been a vital part of healthcare for most life long Delawareans. The care we provide is essential, both for the city of Wilmington and for the broader geographical area. The role in healthcare we play today goes beyond serving the needs of the surrounding city, and includes care for people from all walks of life.

Our solid reputation as the leaders in compassionate care will help to create a healthier future for the patients of Saint Francis Healthcare as we celebrate nearly 90 years of service to the community.

Saint Francis Healthcare Outlines Bright Future for Health System at “Creating a Healthy Future” Event with Governor Markell

November 19, 2013

Executives from Saint Francis Healthcare and CHE Trinity Health were joined by Governor Jack Markell to brief approximately 200 physicians and business partners on the future of healthcare at Saint Francis Healthcare, based here.

“The 60 and older population inDelawarewill grow by more than 80 percent by 2020. An aging population consumes more medical care, and requires different forms of care,” said Ray Welch, executive vice president of Ministry Operations, CHE Trinity Health. “With its network of highly skilled physicians, its signature acute care hospital, its home health program—not to mention the Saint Francis LIFE program, that helps seniors age with dignity and in their homes—Saint Francis provides quality health services the community needs and deserves.”  Saint Francis LIFE is the only PACE (Program for All-inclusive Care for the Elderly) program in Delaware.

“When I think about the future of healthcare in Delaware, I think about quality medical professionals providing high-quality service at a great value,” said Governor Jack Markell.  “Saint Francis Healthcare plays a vital role in helping to fulfill this vision because of the first-class, efficient care it has provided for nearly 90 years, and the access it provides to leading-edge technology and top talent in partnership with CHE Trinity Health.”

In the past year, Saint Francis has invested significantly in both new capabilities and technology to meet the needs of its patients. Dr. Audrey Sernyak, FACC, an interventional cardiologist, joined the system as director of the Cardiovascular Service Line. Saint Francis upgraded its cardiac catheterization lab with state-of-the-art technology, the GE Innova 2000.

For another example of expanded capabilities, Saint Francis announced recently a relationship with Mid-Atlantic GI Consultants (MAGIC), a top gastroenterology group in Delaware. MAGIC will provide easy access to the top GI care at Saint Francis to include 24-hour on-call coverage for the emergency department and new offices in the hospital.

“We remain at the leading edge of high-quality care, offering some of the most technologically advanced services in Delaware, applied by the region’s most skilled and compassionate medical teams. For example, The Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson provides patients in its member hospitals access to the latest developments in cancer research, technology and treatment, allowing Saint Francis patients to participate in clinical trials close to home. We continue to evolve in the way we deliver care to the many people we serve, across all walks of life,” said Brian E. Dietz, interim president and CEO, Saint Francis Healthcare. “The future is bright for Saint Francis Healthcare.”

Across many quality indicators, Saint Francis performs on par with—and, in many cases, outperforms—state and national averages. This includes key quality indicators related to heart care, pneumonia treatment, surgical care, and care received in the emergency department. Saint Francis Healthcare’s solid performance in these measures is a testament to how skilled and talented the medical staff and colleagues are in creating a healthy future.

Saint Francis Healthcare, a member of CHE Trinity Health, operates Delaware’s only Catholic hospital serving Wilmington and Northern New Castle County since 1924. Services provided include the Saint Francis Cardiovascular Services, 24-hour Emergency Services, Gastrointestinal Services, Ambulance Service, Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence, the da Vinci™ Surgical System, Minimally Invasive Surgery Center, Advanced Wound Center, Imaging Services, Sleep/Neurodiagnostics Center, Home Care, Outpatient Physical Therapy, Comprehensive Women’s Services and three community outreach programs. Saint Francis Healthcare is affiliated with the Saint Francis Foundation, the Franciscan Care Center, and Saint Francis LIFE (Living Independently for Elders), a PACE (Program for All-inclusive Care for the Elderly) model.
